About Black Girl Emo Night
Hey friend! I’m Aaliyah Cantrell, but you can call me Aal. I’ve always been drawn to rock music, alternative style, and creative self-expression, but growing up as a Black girl I rarely saw myself represented in these spaces and felt like I didn’t belong. As I got older, I discovered there were so many others who felt the same way.
That’s why I created Black Girl Emo Night, a media project, community space, and platform where I uplift alternative Black women and girls, celebrate the Black history of rock, and share the beauty of our culture through art, journalism, healing, activism, and style. Here, you’ll find blog posts, interviews, educational resources, advocacy materials, and lifestyle content covering everything from alternative fashion and beauty to music history and community stories.
As I grow this platform, I’m also partnering with brands and curating product recommendations that align with alternative fashion, beauty, wellness, and music culture so you can discover unique finds while supporting a movement. My vision is to provide funding, opportunities, and community for Black women in alternative music spaces, while inspiring others to embrace their creativity and identity.
This is my journey, thanks for being part of it. You can connect with me on socials @blackgirlemonight, or email me at reachout@blackgirlemonight.org.
With love and Liberation,
Aaliyah “Aal” Cantrell
